What to expect with our Data Recovery?

Bring your device or drive to your appointment and we will diagnose your data loss.

If your recovery is simple, we will do it in our store. But if it’s more complicated, we will send your device to our Glacier Geeks Recovery Lab for a deeper diagnosis and cost estimate
(see chart below).

We have the expertise, tools, and facilities to handle everything from simple file deletion to recovering data from a hard drive with physical damage.

After successful recovery, your data will be shipped back to you or you can pick it up at your store on an external hard drive. You can provide us with your own drive, or we’ll include one at an additional cost.

  • If you simply deleted some files
  • If you reformatted your drive
  • If you need basic help getting access to your device

  • If your drive requires firmware alteration or physical modification
  • If your device is physically damaged (accident, house fire, severe mechanical wear) and we need to break the seal on the drive within a clean room

A: It depends on the exact device that failed and the nature of the data failure. The time it takes to recover files can vary as much as the price does.

Q: What do you need to recover my data?

A: Only your physical hard drive or storage media. Glacier Geeks can remove the hard drive or storage media for you if you schedule an appointment. Providing us a list of the specific files you are looking for will help us greatly but we can start the recovery without it also.

A: We can saved the recovered files to an external hard drive of your choosing or you can buy an external hard drive from us.

Q: What sorts of data can be recovered?

A: We try to save any and all data, including songs, photos, files and more.

Q: How do I back up my data to prevent this from happening again?

A: You can back up your data on a separate type of media (such as an external hard drive or USB flash drive) or back it up online using cloud storage. Using both provides extra protection. Consider backing up your personal data once a week and backing up business data on a daily basis. Most backup methods allow you to schedule automatic data backups as often as you want.
